Quad-shot espresso with hot chocolate, brewed tight<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Which brings me\/us\/YOU to CRT, that ever-effervescent Critical Race Theory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Which, from my understanding, it\u2019s not what it\u2019s popularly understood to be.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n Not the real race boogeyman, but one perspective\/explanation re why America is just a race-jacked place. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Apart from the white\/black\/red\/brown\/yellow 50 shades of beige<\/em> that we humans are, America is a nation founded on human suffering, cloaked in democracy, and sponsored by capitalism. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Not that any of that is a necessarily a bad thing \u2018cept for those negatively affected by it a\u2019cours and we don\u2019t talk about that<\/sub><\/sup><\/em> because, in sum, America \u2013 for all her genital warts \u2013 is a pretty neat place.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n BUT but \u2026 CRT tries to explain some of the pervasive and lasting disparities between racial groups, and how history plays a role in that. Quick fun fact:<\/p>\n\n\n\n So there\u2019s that, and so far there\u2019s no real, race-neutral explanation for the outcomes re debt and income. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Race \u2013 not human, but an externally identifiable genetic ethnicity \u2013 is easily the defining characteristic of the country (an international student once told me his European passport ID\u2019d him as British and his US passport ID\u2019d him as black \u2026 go figure) but despite that, opportunities still abound.\u00a0 Maybe not the same for everyone, but there\u2019re still some there, there.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n I suppose the message is \u2026 America is still grappling with a resolution to the issue of race, and \u2014 methinks \u2014 there is no solution, only acceptance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Like herpes. Or taxes.
