Foibly Funs

Been a minute since one o’dese, thought just share some thoughts.  Enjoy …

1.           Although Disney’s “Snow White” from 1937 is often assumed to as the world’s first full-length animated film, the very first animated movie is 20 years older and from Argentina … specifically Quirino Cristiani’s “La Intervención en la Provincia de Buenos Aires,” in 1916.

2.           Dr. Seuss invented the word “nerd,” identified as an little angry old man. (early incel)

3.           Only about 100 people worldwide speak fluent Latin.

4.           “Spam” – the “food” not the junkmail – either means “spice” and “ham” or “Specially Processed American Meat.”  The second is more fitting because really?  That and “Tang.”

5.           The first U.S. Postal stamps were issued almost 200 years ago, in 1847.

6.           Out of the ten largest statues in the world, four are of Buddha.
(“Mamayev”, Russia; “Hokkaido Kannon” and “Avalokitesvara,” Japan; “Guanyin,” China;
“Birth of the New World,” Puerto Rico; and “Statue of Unity,” India)

7.           The human cornea is the only living avascular body part (without blood vessels).

8.           IKEA consumes approximately 1-percent of the planet’s lumber.
(Rage-inducing particle board = lumber?  Who knew)

9.           Golf is the only sport (allegedly) played on the moon.

10.        Wombats have cube-shaped poop.

11.        Jeanne Louise Calment, a Frenchwoman with the oldest documented age, died at 122.
(After outliving all of her spouses, her children, and most of her family, she is reported to have said, “I think God has forgotten about me.”)

12.        In Welsh folklore, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi is the horse, cattle, and steed of fairies and elves (even has the markings).

13.        Corn on the cob always has an even number.  (And this is known how?  Did they count?)

14.        Approximately one billion (yes, with a “B”) metric tons of food is wasted annually.
(Starving kids where?)

15,        Out of the 50 U.S. states, none contain a “Q.”

16.        A jiffy is an actual measurement of time – 1/100th of a second.

17.        The hottest recorded temperature on Earth (thus far)?  134° F / 56° C, Death Valley.
(That’s a regular Saturday in Bangkok, but with 100-percent humidity)

18.        Creedence Clearwater Revival (aka / bka CCR), that veritable social-consciousness, funky-blues-folk-rock pop-single machine, never had a #1 hit.

19.        Nutmeg is a hallucinogen (don’t tell the Alphas … here comes another idiot trend)

20.        At 22, Amanda Gorman became the youngest inaugural poet in U.S. history.
Ahh, back when the world was (sorta) sane … who knew.
