Mentioned around these parts that theKid is involved in sports … and where are kid sports, there are kid parents.
One of theKid’s teams (and there are several, sigh) is much more … teamy … than the others.
Case in point — birthday party.
Wasn’t planning on going, me more of the drop-off/retrieve type, but Half insisted I be social, so social I be.
Actually had fun. Much liquor was involved so there’s that. The societal grease.
Kid parents getting hammered, other kid parents instigating aforesaid hammeration, good times had by all.
So much hammeration that one parent had to carry off other parent, to much disgust. Ah, matrimony. In all fairness, hammered parent was having a birthday the following day, decided to celebrate a bit early.
Point? Don’t really have one, except that the right kind of people are more enjoyable when drunk.
Not necessarily a bad thing … all things in moderation, and folks were moderately drunk. {1 Tim. 5:23}
Not all, some took it a leeeetle far, but no violence, minimal vomiting, some dad-shouting, even had some designated drivers. Gotta get the kiddies home safe, after all.
I once told theKid that if not for Half, theKid would have martial arts and boxing, no team sports, because I am not a team-y person.
Might have to revisit that.
Coz they (other team parents, they) were a blast.
So I guess the point is … anti-socialism has its shortcomings.
Will never be a people person, per se, but can make the effort to be more people-ee-yer.
Debt to the herd is embracing the herd. Not all have fleas. And I can bear a few ticks. Maybe.
