The Golden Globes was held on Sunday, January 5, 2025 … a festive, bacchanalian orgy of ego and idol worship. The banally blonde host made a point of the fact that Mario Lopez had received more thanks from the award-winners than GOD.
Then the entire city burned down a few days later. 100MPH Santa Ana winds drove the flames through some of the most exclusive and wealthy neighborhoods in the world, reducing all that materialism to ash.

To clarify: in no way find here a celebration or any schadenfreude re the destruction of property, the loss of lives, the abject ruin of irreplaceable mementos, keepsakes, geegaws, trinkets, baubles and doodads.
And social media is rampant with wild tales of conspiracies … that might not be so wild.
Saw a video time-lapse of the Easton, Palisades, and Hurst fires, and it appears that all three started at the same time, roughly 20 miles apart. Somebody said something about direct energy lasers, so the insufferable MTG might not have been all wrong. Still mostly wrong, but perhaps not entirely fully completely inaccurate.
Interesting little factoid: seems many insurance providers for the areas impacted canceled coverage and left the state in the months prior to the catastrophic wildfires. Kind of like the folks who didn’t go to work in the Twin Towers on that particular Tuesday.
But that’s just the crazy talkin’.
Mel “SugarTits” Gibson is of the opinion that the fires were set to affect a … reset of LA.
Can’t build brand new until all the old is out of the way.
Speaking of … a nestled little enclave of the Ice Cream Social was scorched off the map as well, with many of those folks uninsured. Highly HIGHLY unlikely they will/can afford to rebuild.
And how is the Lower 9th Ward 20 years’ post-Katrina? Hmm, misstrees & coinkydense afeet.
There is, however, a project in the works – SmartLA 2028 – that intends to make Los Angeles a techno-wonder, comprised of “intelligent urban ecosystems” for the age, as well as the summer Olympics ‘28.
There were similar, now-debunked rumors about fire-eaten Lahaina being turned into a “smart city” or a “15-minute city” but instead the area is just being bought up by billionaires so isn’t this better?
The director of the Passion also does not believe in evolution, does not think men fell from monkeys. Much smarter than he is given credit for, methinks.
In any event, next decade or so Tinseltown will look very, very different.
