Toothsome

Generally tend towards not seeing movies on the big screen because people.

Too many of ‘em, clustered in the dark, in too small a space.

However.

Seen/heard a lot of chatter re one particular film, asked Half and theKid if they wanted to see.
Made it a family thing.

And my goodness … was it good.

“Sinners,” written/directed by Ryan Coogler, starring Michael B. Jordan (twice).

Genre-bending period piece about race relations and vampires set in the Jim Crow South.
In the ever-immortal words of Lil’ Jon … Wwhaaat?

AND and apparently, Mr. Coogler negotiated for ownership of the movie and all its rights in 25 years.

Repeat:  Wwhaaat?

Shine on, you funky stranger.

Remmick?  Beautiful.  Loved that guy.  Irish jig, indeed.  And that lilting brogue … talk to me sommore.
And was he really a villain?  Really?  Aside from damning people to an eternal undead heliophobic existence … was he really all that bad?  Felt for the guy.  Just wanted a big family.

Really liked how both brothers left the women they loved to protect them, only to end up losing them anyway …

Women usually tend to share pain in an effort to heal whereas men want to keep it all to themselves, afraid of appearing weak, or vulnerable, or damaged.

Ameriginals complained about the lack of representation … uhh, duhh, the Ameriginals were the only ones who knew what was going on, tried to warn the horsemen.  So did the vultures, but guess bedsheet-wearing, duncecap-donning horsemen don’t speak bird.

Not only heard a lotta chatter but a lotta hate, which is totally not surprising.

One wit claimed Coogler bit (heh) off Dusk ‘Til Dawn, the Tarantino flick.

Uhh, no

Yes there were two criminal brothers and yes the action took place in a club and yes there were vampires but the similarities end there.

One was a schlock-filled gorefest and the other was, well … good.

Easily best film in a while.  Here’s wishing Mr. Coogler all the success he – and that film – deserves.

Go, Lassie.  Go.
