Read an interesting … treatise? … manifesto? … screed? … whatever, thought it was excellent, about the actual reason for RTO when WFH works/ed so very, very well.
Don’t need to drive if staying at home.
Chevron … BP … Exxon … all had reduction in profits when folks stayed home, that and commercial real estate.
Rather than adapt, these industries would rather regress.
Typical. Masters of mankind gotta keep mastering.
One other important and overlooked aspect of RTO?
The generally unhappy home lives of management, and the overarching need to be stroked.
See, impossible to Lumbergh via Zoom.
The other thing?
Inability to ogle female coworkers in tight pencil skirts. Truth? Men like proximity to women, even in the absence of access.
The visuals alone are stunning. Not all, obviously … all those pastel polyester pantsuits must go somewhere.
But Shein for the office is a thing, and very much appreciated, methinks.
Mentioned previously in these parts that Canada (Oh, Canada) managed to convert office space to mixed-use residential, intended to bring some life back to the downtowns.
Seems more sustainable as well. Not just a dead ghost town of high rises at 5to6 pm, but folks walking to work (or, most heavens, riding the elevator between floors) then walking to fun (bowling, movies, rollerskating, binge drinking, whatevs) would likely keep all the monies in-house, and make for a more satisfied workforce.
But. Can’t have that. Not really. Debt to common sense? Forever due.
Part of the allure, the esteem, of being a mankind master is making the masses miserable,
the exertion of control for its own sake.
Coz fundamentally … the masters are themselves unhappy, and unclear as to why money = / = mindpeace.
What’s the adage? “Hurt people hurt people.” {Proverbs 17:22}
And the whole world is hurting.
