Guess never saw that coming. Masters of mankind = blindsided.
How refreshing.
Mentioned somewhere recently in these parts a Mr. Bordenaro from the Land of the Tubes of You who has some interesting content and valuable perspectives on the thing of things … def worth a listen/view.
Anyhoo, he talked about how folks – particularly Millennials and Gen Zs – are just … giving up. Not in a 13 Reasons Why type of way but more of an effallofit why-bother vibe.
{Ecclesiastes 1:4}
Wages? Stagnant.
Debt? Overwhelming.
Hope? Lost.
So, they are now, in fairly substantial numbers, just checking out of the entire process and choosing to simply live that life.
No longer saving to buy a house because homes are unaffordable, the down payment requirements are ridiculous, and mortgage payments essentially constitute indentured servitude for four walls and a roof, sans even stainless-steel appliances and granite countertops.
Rent works, rent is good, cheaper, and with fewer obligations. And moving only requires a 30-day notice, if that.
Not seeking advancement at work, cuz does hoes ain’t loyal … a company will spew that “We’re like family!” nonsense while installing AI bots.
No longer saving for retirement, because most will never afford to retire. So effit, let’s crypto and roll the electronic dice.
Not having kids, because childcare is extortionate, the school systems are a joke, and the future is getting dimmer and dimmer.
There’s a Tok of Tik edit short with this foreign guy – obvious accent, Brit, Aussie, Welsh, something – and he mentions how the rich are eating themselves by consuming every possible thing, destroying the foundations of society by wanting, demanding, consuming, amassing more and more and more and more ad infinitum, ad nauseum.
Yeah, eventually there will be an Uno Reverse buffet, just a question of when.
[See: collapse of Rome, revolutions of the French, colonists wilding out on wharves, see the historical etc.]
Push the poor too hard, too far and too much, eventually the pendulum swings the entire other way … what’s that book by that guy turned into that movie? Poe’s The Pit and the Pendulum?
Yeh.
Seems the rich should prepare for the rack.
The goal for the youngers should still be getting/staying out of debt, free up the limited income, not pay for today’s fun with tomorrow’s money.
Because ultimately money = mitigation, from the day-to-day concerns of life. Once the bills get paid, the belly is full, the flix are streaming and the lights stay on … easier to just be.
Modern goals. Keep those expectations manageable, while divesting/disengaging/distancing from the system. Let them eat cake, while enjoying that avocado toast.
Melikes.
