Crudités

Recently I engaged in what absolutely must be the most Caucasoid behavior known to modern society …
I Uber’d from Whole Foods whilst drinking a latte from Starbucks.

The only way that conduct could be any whiter is with soy milk.

My lips are just primming with privilege.

Actually, I’m lying.  I have no privilege, apart from First World.  And I didn’t have a latte.  Don’t like Starbucks, actually.  Gimme a Peets anyday.

Actually that, too, is a lie.

Since asking my 7Q’s … if I have coffee, I make it at home.  And it’s a turbo mocha, thankyouverymuch.

Quad-shot espresso with hot chocolate, brewed tight.

Which brings me/us/YOU to CRT, that ever-effervescent Critical Race Theory.

Which, from my understanding, it’s not what it’s popularly understood to be.

Not the real race boogeyman, but one perspective/explanation re why America is just a race-jacked place.

Apart from the white/black/red/brown/yellow 50 shades of beige that we humans are, America is a nation founded on human suffering, cloaked in democracy, and sponsored by capitalism.

Not that any of that is a necessarily a bad thing ‘cept for those negatively affected by it a’cours and we don’t talk about that because, in sum, America – for all her genital warts – is a pretty neat place.

BUT but … CRT tries to explain some of the pervasive and lasting disparities between racial groups, and how history plays a role in that.  Quick fun fact:

So there’s that, and so far there’s no real, race-neutral explanation for the outcomes re debt and income.

Race – not human, but an externally identifiable genetic ethnicity – is easily the defining characteristic of the country (an international student once told me his European passport ID’d him as British and his US passport ID’d him as black … go figure) but despite that, opportunities still abound.  Maybe not the same for everyone, but there’re still some there, there.

I suppose the message is … America is still grappling with a resolution to the issue of race, and — methinks — there is no solution, only acceptance.

Like herpes.  Or taxes.  Can mitigate the effects but both will follow you to the grave …

Race/perception is indelible, and folks are always going to be judged on skin, until proven by action.

And actions begin with the individual.

So, to bring it ‘round once again, debt, like race, does have an impact, but it’s up to the affected person to decide how to deal.

I’m fully satisfied with my race / not human oh-ho-no-never-that but man’s classification of the skin I’m in God gave me {Gen. 9:19}.  Now it’s time to get to that debt satisfaction.

Already have a house (thanks Half!) so there’s one hurdle jumped.  Just have to figure out the rest.
