Now she is pretty good. Color me impressed.
The impending demise of the ‘Murrican FaceTik/InstaTok is looming, and folks have feelings.
Personally, never really traversed that peculiar social media minefield.
Don’t do much of any of that, really.
Liking the Tubes of You, ‘cept for the ads … oh so many ads …
OK so quicktake—the Gub’mint does not like the platform because it does what it does better than any US social media platform, gets folks to give up the data, all the data, on personal likes/dislikes, interests, attentions, etc.
But it is a Chinese-owned company, ByteDance, with around 60 percent held by global institutional investors, 20 percent controlled by the company’s founders, and (gasp!) 20 percent held by employees.
Well, there’s the problem right there.
Anyhoo, this young woman @dashofpaprika broke it down very succinctly, summarized very basic(ally) that the Gub’mint wants the Tok of the Tik in the hands of a US corp to mine the data … personal data is the new gold, the new oil, the new tulips of Denmark, and the Gub’mint is Walken’s King of New York … “Nickelbag sold in the park? I want in.”
And all that noise re “foreign interests obtaining the personal info of US citizens” is so much pigscrub bc when US companies do it, just fine. No problem. Nothing to see here. Oh look! Shiny things.
Again, just like BYD … US corps cannot measure up, so want to block the foreigners who do it better.
Smarmy the Grinning Stain might have a point re “American mediocrity” … which directly results in the culture of idiocracy rampaging through US classrooms.

Yah, we’re doing great.
My Elder insisted on education … academic success was not optional but expected … anticipated, even. Insisted on college (chosen profession? Auto mechanic, maybe get a job on the NASCAR circuit … talk about divergent paths & the road not taken) and wound up in a six-figure, paycheck-to-parking lot lifestyle … getting better, tho’.
Not mad about it, when look back at the defining credit moment would certainly have taken the road less traveled (don’t spend / if spend spend wisely) but we are where we are when we are who we are.
All to the good, tho’. Hope Tok of the Tik doesn’t get banned in the US, veritable gold mine of perspectives, opinions and attitudes, that one. True town square.
Which is exactly why the Gub’mint wants to put a stop to it. Too much democracy in one place.
Can’t have that in America. This is an oligarchy. Bozos and Skum must rule. {Nahum 1:3}
Trump looks good ginger-pegged in a ballgag.
However, we shall all be … bent prone and spread-cheeked sans lube for the foreseeable future.
This will not be fun. But will certainly be interesting.
